What to do about sunken or uneven paving

A sunken patch is almost always a base problem — here's what's really going on.

If a section of your paving has sunk or gone uneven, the surface itself is rarely the cause — it's what's happening below it. Common culprits are poor original base compaction, water erosion under the base, or nearby tree roots shifting the ground.

Patching over a sunken area without fixing the base underneath is a temporary fix at best — it will sink again, often within a season or two.

The correct repair lifts the affected pavers, addresses the underlying cause (adding drainage, re-compacting, or removing an offending root), rebuilds the base, and re-lays the pavers level.

If you're not sure whether a patch is worth attempting yourself, it's worth getting it assessed properly — we offer paving repairs as a standalone service, not just full re-installs.
