Keeping weeds out of your paving joints

Weeds in paving joints almost always start from windblown seeds landing in gaps where jointing sand has thinned or washed away — so the first line of defence is simply keeping joints topped up.

For an extra layer of protection, polymeric jointing sand hardens once wet and resists weed growth far better than regular kiln-dried sand.

If weeds do appear, pull them while young and refill the joint immediately — established root systems are harder to remove and more likely to lift the surrounding pavers.

A pre-emergent weed treatment applied to joints once or twice a year is a low-effort way to stay ahead of the problem, especially heading into the summer rainy season.
